Training & OutreachHow to Avoid Common Pitfalls in Writing In our academic and professional lives, we are forced to produce written documents on a regular basis. Many of these are composed while trying to meet tight timelines. For many of us, it has been a long time since we were introduced to grammatical usage and proper punctuation. We tend to "fly by the seat of our pants" and hope that the spell check and grammar functions of our computer catch the most blatant errors. This seminar is intended to remind you of the commonly broken rules and to help you avoid some of the most frequent errors. It will address the principles behind the rules, so that you can learn from your mistakes and improve your writing skills. You will also receive a checklist that will help you evaluate your own writing prior to submitting it for a class assignment or to an editor for publication. (1 – 1.5 hours) |
